Hitting for contact is one thing Ichiro can do better than almost anyone who has ever played. His batting style is unorthodox, to say the least. He does not keep his balance back, as the book on hitting says to do, but often shifts his weight to his front foot, bringing the bat through the hitting zone as though it were a broom. You would not teach your child to hit the way Ichiro does, and yet he has proven extremely effective. He has hit over .300 every year in the majors, including .355 so far this year. If Vlad is the Impaler, then Ichiro is the Acupuncturist, sticking it to the other team one line drive at a time. He is the Peter Pan of the American League, gracefully flitting here and there, swatting cue shots up the middle, always just beating out the grounder to short.

Sabermetricians must hate him. He draws fewer than one walk for every fifteen plate appearances in his career, although his ratio is a little better in 2007. He displays little power, preferring to hit 'em where they aint (see Wee Willie Keeler). Although he has a .333 career batting average, his On Base Percentage is only .379, and his Slugging Percentage is .439, a hardly Ruthian figure. Yet, if you asked today's GMs about guys they would like to start a team with, Ichiro's name rises to the top.

In addition to Ichiro's incredible hitting prowess, he is a gazelle on the basepaths. He reportedly gets down the first base line in a nifty 3.2 seconds, putting him there with the fastest players ever. If he hits a chopper into the ground, forget it. If he sends one into the gap, he will likely be standing on third in less than ten seconds.

His throwing arm is a cannon, especially for someone who is so slight-of-build. Players and fans everywhere know that you can't run on Ichiro, so rarely does anyone try. His move from right field to center has allowed the Mariners to bring in Jose Guillen this year, a big improvement over Jeremy Reed or Willie Bloomquist. Ichiro is one of the best center fielders in the game, although we don't often see him on ESPN's Web Gems. Who needs to make a leaping or diving catch if you can beat the ball to the spot?

Two players which I saw play as I was growing up remind me of Ichiro at the plate. Wade Boggs and Tony Gwynn defined pure hitting in the 80's, forsaking power for the ability to consistently hit line drives to all fields. If you look up Ichiro's comparables based on stats, though, you get guys like Bake McBride and Ron LeFlore...good players, but not nearly of his caliber. In fact, it is difficult to find a player like Ichiro anywhere in the history of baseball.

Ironically, the player Ichiro is least like is his own teammate, Richie Sexson, who hits one ball out of the park every five games and somehow makes millions of dollars doing it. Today's baseball is committed to the long ball, building behemoths who can drive towering shots over drawn-in fences. Sabermetrics preaches the value of the walk and the home run. Ichiro's greatness transcends modern-day wisdom.

I've come to a profound realization: Baseball is not (or should not be) about winning. The game I love is about Ernie Banks, the curse of the Bambino, and Pine Tar. We revel in blown calls, fan interference, and coaches jawing with an umpire face-to-face. In fact, my favorite part of the game is the pitcher-batter duel. The universe comes to a stop when John Lackey deals filth to Alex Rodriguez. Pitch by pitch, moment by moment, who will win the battle? Ichiro wins his wars more than any other player.

My daughter just turned one year old last month. I plan to share my love of the game with her as she grows up. I relish in the thought that she will see Ichiro Suzuki play, even if he is an old man. I will tell her that he is the Peter Pan of baseball - that he is from Neverland, sprinkled with fairy dust, always just a little too fast to be caught in the dreaded grasp of Captain Hook.

Sometime in the future, on a warm summer day, a crowd of people will gather in Cooperstown, New York. 13. Loose My Mind_ Young Jeezy- Young Jeezy came clean with this one. He has a way of hypnotizing you with street club bangers.

12. F*ck Tha Other Side_ Dunk Ryders feat Trick Daddy- When T Double D dropped this song everybody was screaming f*ck tha other side in the club.

11. Becky_ Plies- Men and women alike loved this song when Plies released this one. People ran to the dance floor when the DJ put this song on.

10. Stuntin Like My Daddy_ Birdman & Lil Wayne- By far one of the best rap verses that I ever heard Lil Wayne say on this song. When the DJ played this song, everybody just wanted to hear Lil Wayne's verse.

9. Trapstar_ Young Jeezy- The horns on this song alone is what make this record a certified banger in the clubs and streets alike.

8. We Takin Over_ DJ Khaled- When you have a million people on a song that all have sold platinum records. You can't help but win. By far my favorite song from Khaled.

7. Shorty Wanna Ride_ Young Buck- This is probably one of the hardest beats that I have ever heard. The whole club was jumpin every time the DJ dropped this record one the one.

6. Lollipop_ Lil Wayne- The best song that LIL Wayne has ever made. Lollipop is so catchy and the beat so melodic that everybody couldn't help but fall in love with this one.

5. Hustle Hard_ Ace Hood- The only song that Ace Hood ever made that I liked. But by far the best record that he has ever made. If you are a hustler, this is your song.

4. ASAP_ TI- The King let it be known that if you hate on him there will be consequences and repercussions. Who didn't like this song?

3. I.N.D.E.P.E.N.D.E.N.T_ Lil Weebie- The alone is what really carried this song. Lil Weebie had every woman in the club that didn't pay their way in, and was asking men in the to by them a drink, singing this song.

2.BMF_ Rick Ross- Whether you like the biggest boss or not. Nobody can deny that this man knows how to make hit records.

I really love EduQna's Rough translation: "Please sir, if you would kindly pull the cash from my pockets to make my (possession) appeal to my need for compensation." If the word fits, recording labels should wear it. Many artists have complained that they feel "pimped out" due to the types of contracts they innocently sign just to break into the industry - the signing may be innocent, but the wording of the contract is by design - to control the music and the artist who creates it.

The music industry is really shooting itself in the foot and hemorrhaging slowly by not joining with online music sites whereby both can profit. However, in its effort to control the industry as it has in the past, they are missing out on a large opportunity to sell a larger variety of music to their demographic target - 13 to 18 year old listeners. So Shawn and his tiny company of 50 employees in Redwood City, California was up against media empires like Universal, Sony and BMG. But what the music industry failed to see is that whatever the outcome of the Napster lawsuit, Napster had opened a proverbial window of possibility on the Internet and more companies would and did spring up over time. After a protracted legal battle the site would eventually be shut down. Years later, after being bought by Roxio, it would reemerge as a popular digital music service. Since that time, there are thousands of sites worldwide, that have grown from and perfected what Shawn started moved through the controversy, and now provide quality music to its online customers through a process called "streaming". "Streaming" is a generic term in the computer world. It basically means that the data being transferred can be used immediately, without having to download the song in it's entirety before it can be used. Audio (music) and video (that is a topic of another article) can be streamed successfully, and with a high quality result.

One of the most popular providers of streaming audio and video, of course is Apple Computers. With the introduction and popularity explosion of the I-Pod, which was created for downloading, transferring and playing music and now video, Apple created I-Tunes, a service where you can purchase individual songs or full albums, from an extensive library - from any genre you can think of - where customers can purchase tracks online for a nominal fee. This is due to the fact that I-Tunes and other streaming music companies have created partnerships through licensing agreements with some artists and some music labels. Though technological progress has been made in this area, megalomania is still pervasive. There is still a large population of record labels and companies who have chosen not to partner with digital/streaming music companies. Why? Control - the music companies want and have control over the majority of music and artists of the music that you listen to.

Where the "Buck" Stops

A large majority of the music industry's record labels still own around 75% of the world's most well-known recordings, yes the world's! All streaming music companies are clamoring for new media to sell its customers, and offers the recording labels licensing agreement opportunities that would allow wider distribution of legal music downloading and streaming - without a license for every single song they offer to the public - they now, after the successful ligation brought on by the Napster controversy - companies can be successfully sued. When the record label refuse licensing agreements, those songs or records cannot be offered for consumers like us to listen to or purchase online. This is the sole reason why you cannot find many of the most popular artists or songs you have come to love on streaming music sites. It is because the major recording labels have still not gotten around to agreeing to license these sites to offer their music. Who suffers? Really everyone. There are thousands of new artists popping up every year, with new and exciting music of every genre, and hopefully these new artists will work with record labels who actually live and work in the 21st century and create a powerful partnership to distribute their music online.

So in conclusion, I guess that in one case at least, the Gangsta Rap artists did something positive, and delivered a line that fits this situation in a limited sense - until we "fight the powers that be" in the music industry, we will be forced to keep listening to the same song - with a different beat - over and over again.

Well first up you need some DJ gear. While back in the day the ultimate DJ gear set up consisted of two Technics turntables and a mixer but now things have become somewhat more sophisticated. The industry standard is now Pioneer whose CD decks and mixers are the weapons of choice for most DJs and nightclubs with many features on offer. These days DJs only have to turn up with a USB stick, a pair of headphones and they're ready to rock a crowd. And remember a search engine like Google offers paid keywords for retailers and manufacturers wanting to appear at the top of the searches as sponsored advertising. In other words try and ensure you are reading neutral information as opposed to sponsored information.

If a website is more about paid advertising links and out of date posts you are probably on the wrong site. Before purchasing any gear, try and make sure the outlet has a good reputation in the market and make sure they have been in the market a decent period of time. If they carry most of the major brands such as Pioneer, Technics, Numark, Gemini, American Audio, Vestax, Allen and Heath, Traktor, Mixvibes etc, then they should be OK. Discuss with the sales person all of the points mentioned above with regard to the music you are playing, vinyl vs. digital, software etc and get some options. Remember knowledge is power so the more research and discussion you undertake, the better informed decision you will make and leading you to ultimately become the superstar DJ you want to be.
